I wonder if Saturn game discs have error correction code like audio CDs to negate these pinholes.

I brought Resident Evil Code Veronica X on ps2 it didn't work on my ps3 took it to the retro game store yesterday and that guy told me it had disc rot now i plan to make it a art display so it can have somewhat of use and value. I got it new sealed ps2 and yeah.

My experience of the (PS3 Only) pinhole phenomenon is that despite being visible under light the games that have them have always worked, the area affected appears to be a tiny particle of dust/debris that's hit the artwork during the process that applies that layer, occasionally you can even see a lift at the same spot which may lead to further artwork peeling more of a scratch than a pinhole, as for if this damages the Disc I have no idea, some say it doesn't as it is just the artwork, however there are numerous places on a Disc where the same data is held for loading speed convenience so it might ignore these spots/bad sectors and go to the next area looking for the required data to load the games next output, this may or may not be why the Disc/s still works. The answer I am looking for and nobody will give me a provable answer on is, is the Disc damaged or not? as if it is just the artwork I don't care, but if it's only working as it has other areas of the Disc to go to read the required data then that's a problem, can anyone shed some light on this (or through) it?

Why does zoverstocks have the habit of not shipping out items for a whole week then decide to ship it that just takes to long that way but I understand that items coming from there that come overseas to usa take awhile to get to the customers

Sega dreamcast and saturn are well known for the pinhole due to the manufacturing dont worried all youre disc are fine my man

Something that is a huge overlooked issue with Saturn games is the booklet pressing up against the disc for years on end. I've encountered so many booklets that smell mouldy / musty and under the right light, you can see the specks of growth on them which quickly transfers onto the surface of the disc. These days I keep the booklets out of the my Saturn games to air them out and also reduce contact the disc has with any other surface. Dreamcast I think is going to be the next big 'gotcha' when it comes to disc decay not to far down the line.

This is why emulation is the way to go. Physical media will die sooner or later.

I'm having the opposite problem. Music CDs and blue discs work fine, but DVDs don't work.

my copy of gex has several pinpricks in it but I was able to play through the entire game just fine.

We need a disc rot update? 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I would sell the lot and treat yourself to a new car.

The reason why the game wouldnt play its because its for the american Sega Genesis and since you tried to play that game on a european Mega drive it does not work first it starts off with the sega license screen for a short second but the image disappears it can said To be its because The American NTSC Sega genesis games where play in 60Hz While the PAL Sega Megadrive games Where play in 50Hz Theres a european version of this game and it will work on the european sega megadrive

i had a massive saturn collection up untill covid hit , but i had the same issue with 2/3 games that started to show disc rot in 2018 , but when it happened to one of my most expencive games i had enough and sold my entire saturn collection

I’ve been playing the PlayStation version for the longest time, at one point I played the PC version but never the Sega Saturn. And holy hell this looks more sluggish and pixelated than the other two versions. I can see why a lot of people didn’t like this one as much as the games that followed but I managed to get passed the clunkyness and play around it.

Disk quality decides this a lot and disk type. CD-R disks are the most susceptible, especially the ones without a sticker label. Never have I once had a CD-RW become holy. Printed disks only become holy if scratched to hell and back and left in a damp closet, but CD-R is pure crap, unless from Verbatim with a full coverage label.
